Novelist Maryse Conde has been announced as the winner of the New Academy prize in literature.
i. This award was created after the Swedish Academy postponed this year’s Nobel prize for literature following a rape scandal.
ii. Maryse Condé will receive £87,000 cash prize that was raised from crowdfunding and donations, at the award ceremony on 9 December 2018, a day before the Nobel award ceremony.
iii. Maryse Condé is from Guadeloupe, France. She is 81 years old. She has written around 20 novels.
