- Scotland To Host 2026 Commonwealth Games –
- Scotland will host the Commonwealth Games in 2026 after Victoria, Australia, withdrew due to rising costs.
- Glasgow, which hosted the Games in 2014, will once again welcome athletes from around the world, but the event will be on a smaller scale this time.
- Victoria, Australia, decided not to host the 2026 Games because the costs were becoming too high. A later investigation found that their cost predictions had been overstated, leading to their decision to withdraw.
- J&K Records Highest Voter Turnout in 35 Years –
- J&K achieved over 61% voter turnout in the 1st phase of assembly polls, the highest in 35 years.
- Voting was peaceful across all 24 Assembly Constituencies in 7 districts: Kishtwar (80.14%: Highest), Pulwama (46.65%), Shopian (55.96%), Kulgam (62.46%), Anantnag (57.84%), Ramban (70.55%), and Doda (71.34%).

- Indo-Bangladesh Extradition Treaty –
- Extradition Mandate: For crimes with a minimum 1-year imprisonment in both countries.
- Political Crimes: Extradition can be refused for political crimes, but serious crimes like murder are excluded.
- 2016 Amendment: Removed the requirement for concrete evidence; arrest warrant from court is sufficient.
- Dual Criminality: Crime must be punishable under the laws of both nations for extradition.
- Government Allocates ₹31,000 Crore for Myanmar Border Fencing –
- The Union government has approved ₹31,000 crore to fence the 1,643-km Myanmar border.
- Myanmar border runs along the States of Arunachal Pradesh (520 km), Nagaland (215 km), Manipur (398 km) and Mizoram (510 km).
- The Home Ministry scrapped the Free Movement Regime along the Myanmar border earlier this year.
- About 10 km of fencing has already been completed near Moreh and 21 km is under work.
- RG Kar case: Junior doctors call off protest partially –
- West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF), the umbrella body spearheading the protest demonstrations against the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata last month, has decided to join back duty but only in the General Emergency Departments in different medical colleges & hospitals from Saturday.
- WBJDF has also announced that they will be participating in the medical camps to be opened by the state government amid the looming health crisis in the wake of the post-flood situation in the state.
