Shigeru Ishiba, former defence minister, is poised to become Japan’s next prime minister after winning the Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) leadership vote. Ishiba will succeed Fumio Kishida, who stepped down following scandals that damaged his tenure.
With the LDP holding a majority in the lower house, Ishiba’s path to the role is effectively secured. He edged out economic security minister Sanae Takaichi by a narrow margin of 21 votes in the leadership race.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched three PARAM Rudra supercomputers on September 26, 2024, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements for empowering the underprivileged.
Developed indigenously under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) at a cost of ₹130 crore each, these high-performance computing systems are strategically deployed in Pune, Delhi, and Kolkata. With a total investment of ₹850 crore in the project, these supercomputers aim to facilitate pioneering scientific research across various disciplines.

RASHTRIYA POSHAN MAAH 2024, INDIA’S NATIONWIDE MOVEMENT FOR NUTRITION AND HEALTH-

The 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah, celebrated across India in 2024, marks a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing battle against malnutrition.
This monthlong campaign, an integral part of India’s mission to eradicate nutritional deficiencies, has brought renewed energy and focus to the national discourse on health and nutrition.
Since its inception in 2018, Poshan Maah has become an annual event of paramount importance.
Over the past seven years, six Poshan Maah and Poshan Pakhwada campaigns have been conducted, each building upon the successes of its predecessors. These awareness drives have cumulatively reported over 100 crore nutrition-centric sensitization activities, addressing various themes crucial to India’s nutritional landscape.

India has climbed to the 39th position among 133 global economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024, as announced by Union Minister Piyush Goyal. India also ranked 1st among 10 economies in the Central and Southern Asian region and led the lower-middle-income economies group.
The country was 81st in 2015 and rose to 39th due to its thriving innovation ecosystem, powered by entrepreneurs, startups, and public-private partnerships.
India ranked 1st in Central & Southern Asia and among lower-middle-income economies, 4th in WIPO’s Science & Technology Cluster Rankings, with cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai in the global top 100 S&T clusters. India also ranked 7th globally in intangible asset intensity.

The Central Government, through the Ministry of Law and Justice, notified the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts to fill key judicial positions and ensure the smooth functioning of the judicial system in various states.
Union Law Minister (Independent Charge) Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointment of Chief Justices to eight High Courts.
The Supreme Court Collegium, in its recommendations regarding the appointment of Chief Justices, originally made proposals on July 11, 2023. However, on September 17, 2023, the Collegium altered some of its earlier recommendations concerning the appointment of Chief Justices to four High Courts.

Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji (Judge of Calcutta HC) – Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court.
Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar (Judge of Bombay HC) – Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
Justice Tashi Rabstan (Judge of J&K&L HC) – Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir & Ladakh High Court.
Justice KR Shriram (Judge of Bombay HC) – Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
Justice MS Ramachandra Rao (presently CJ of HP HC) – Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
