S. Paramesh officially took charge as the Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard at its headquarters in New Delhi.
His appointment comes following the tragic demise of his predecessor, DG Rakesh Pal, last month. Paramesh, who had been officiating as the Director General, was formally appointed by the government a day prior. Upon assuming office, he was honored with a ceremonial guard of honour.
With over three decades of dedicated service in the Indian Coast Guard, S. Paramesh has made significant contributions in both command and staff roles.

ISRO CHAIRMAN S. SOMANATH RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS IAF WORLD SPACE AWARD FOR CHANDRAYAAN-3 –

Dr. S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been honored with the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF) World Space Award.
This accolade was awarded in recognition of the remarkable success of Chandrayaan-3, India’s lunar mission that made history with its soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole. The award ceremony took place in Milan, Italy, and marked a significant milestone in India’s growing prominence in space exploration.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission, which successfully landed near the Moon’s South Pole on August 23, 2023, placed India in the global spotlight. It made India the first nation to achieve a landing at the lunar South Pole, a region that had eluded previous attempts by other nations.
With this feat, India joined an elite group of countries capable of successfully landing on the Moon, which includes the United States, Russia, and China.

Aerospace startup Space Kidz India has launched the ShakthiSAT mission, aiming to train 12,000 girls aged 14-18 from 108 countries in space technology, targeting a satellite launch under ISRO’s Chandrayaan-4 mission in 2026.
A prototype presentation will be made to Prime Minister Narendra Modi later this year or early next year. This initiative not only emphasizes skill development in the realm of space but also seeks to inspire and empower young women globally.
The ShakthiSAT mission includes 120 hours of online training focused on various aspects of space technology, payload development, and spacecraft systems.
Following this, 108 students—one from each participating country—will be selected for hands-on training in India between June and August next year.

In a significant achievement for Indian shooting sports, the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) announced that India will host the ISSF Junior World Cup in 2025.
ISSF President Luciano Rossi made this declaration during a press conference in New Delhi, where he praised India’s contributions to the sport and its increasing global prominence. The announcement comes as India prepares to compete in the ISSF World Cup Final, showcasing its talented athletes and commitment to enhancing shooting infrastructure.
Rossi emphasized that the ISSF is willing to support India in hosting more prestigious shooting tournaments in the future.

The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a comprehensive tool that tracks and measures hunger at the global, regional, and national levels. The 2024 GHI report sheds light on hunger levels across 127 countries, with specific emphasis on India’s ranking and challenges.
India ranks 105th out of 127 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2024, placing it in the “serious” hunger category.
India’s GHI score is 27.3, indicating a severe level of hunger.
13.7% of India’s population is undernourished, meaning they do not have access to sufficient caloric intake.
35.5% of children under five are stunted, reflecting chronic undernutrition.
18.7% of children under five suffer from wasting, a sign of acute undernutrition where children have low weight for their height.
2.9% of children die before reaching their fifth birthday due to a combination of inadequate nutrition and unhealthy living environments.
