  1. COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDIA LEADER SITARAM YECHURY PASSES AWAY –
  • Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Shri. Sitaram Yechury passed away. He died at the age of 72 at AIMS hospital in New Delhi. From India most of the political leaders have offered condolence to him. He was born in Chennai in 1952 and is a prominent figure in Indian Politics.
  • He started his journey by joining the Student Federation of India in 1974. He was also arrested during emergency when he was still in the JNU, Delhi.
  • He was elected to Rajya Sabha from the state of West Bengal and served 12 years. Succeeded Prakash Karat as General Secretary of CPI(M) in 2015.

 

  1. CABINET APPROVES PM E-DRIVE SCHEME FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE REVOLUTION –
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme to promote electric mobility in India.
  • The scheme, with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore over two years, aims to expedite EV adoption, improve air quality, and reduce the environmental impact of transportation.
  • Subsidies and Incentives: Rs. 3,679 crore allocated for subsidies to incentivize e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and e-buses, supporting over 28 lakh electric vehicles.
  • E-Voucher System: Aadhaar-authenticated e-vouchers will be generated for buyers, which will be signed and submitted to dealers, enabling OEMs to claim reimbursements.
  • E-Ambulances: Rs. 500 crore dedicated to the introduction of e-ambulances, ensuring safer, more comfortable patient transport with new safety standards.
  • E-Bus Procurement: Rs. 4,391 crore has been allocated to procure 14,028 e-buses for nine cities with populations exceeding 4 million and for intercity routes, promoting cleaner mass mobility.

 

  1. PM MODI MARKS 132ND ANNIVERSARY OF VIVEKANANDA’S CHICAGO SPEECH –
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi commemorated the 132nd anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s landmark speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago, delivered in 1893.
  • Modi highlighted that Vivekananda’s address introduced India’s timeless message of unity, peace, and brotherhood to the global audience. He praised the enduring impact of Vivekananda’s words, noting their continued inspiration across generations.
  • Global Message: Vivekananda’s speech emphasized unity, peace, and brotherhood.
  • Swami Vivekananda Birth and Early Life: Born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, India.
  • Chicago Speech: Gained international fame in 1893 for his address at the World’s Parliament of Religions, promoting Hinduism and universal brotherhood.

 

  1. LOCKHEED MARTIN AND TATA SYSTEMS PARTNER FOR C-130J EXPANSION IN INDIA-
  • On September 10, 2024, Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced a significant collaboration to enhance the C-130J Super Hercules program in India.
  • This partnership aims to establish a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India to support both the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) fleet of 12 C-130Js and global C-130J fleets.
  • Additionally, the agreement includes plans to expand C-130J manufacturing and assembly in India, potentially for the IAF’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, pending necessary government approvals.

 

 

  1. INDIA REMAINS TOP SOURCE FOR SRI LANKA TOURISM IN 2024 –
  • As Indians roam all around the world, recent data came out as Sri Lanka is also one of the top travel destinations for Indians in 2024. India maintained the top spot for Sri Lanka in the first 8 months of this year.
  • Almost 2.6 lacs Indians traveled to the island nation while 1.36 million tourists in all arrived in the first eight months of the year.
  • As per the data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the increase in tourist arrivals in the current year to date increased by 50.7 percent as against the same period in 2023.
  • The latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka shows that during the same period, the island nation earned 2.17 billion US dollars, which is a 66.1 percent increase from last year.
