1. UP DECLARES MAHA KUMBH AREA A NEW DISTRICT FOR 2025 MELA –

• In a significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has declared the Maha Kumbh area in Prayagraj as a new district, named the Maha Kumbh Mela district, ahead of the grand religious event scheduled for January 2025.
• This decision marks a crucial step to streamline the administrative and logistical efforts for the smooth organization of the Kumbh Mela, which attracts millions of pilgrims from across the world.
• The creation of the new district aims to enhance coordination, law enforcement, and resource management for the event.

2. JAY SHAH BECAME A YOUNGEST ICC CHAIRMAN IN HISTORY –

• Jay Shah, an experienced cricket administrator and Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has officially commenced his tenure as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
• At 36, Shah becomes the youngest to ever hold the prestigious position. His leadership comes at a critical juncture for global cricket, with significant opportunities and challenges in expanding the sport’s reach and inclusivity.

3. SOUTH KOREA’S MARTIAL LAW DECLARATION SPARKS OUTRAGE –

• President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law in South Korea, which led to protests and political turmoil. Lawmakers quickly opposed the declaration, marking a critical moment for the nation’s democracy.
• Martial law was declared amidst rising tensions in parliament. Yoon accused opposition parties of undermining the government. He claimed this action was necessary to maintain constitutional order.
• The speaker of parliament invalidated the martial law announcement and lawmakers voted against it. Even Yoon’s party leader publicly opposed the declaration, denoting internal dissent.

4. INDIAN NAVY DAY OBSERVED ON DECEMBER 4 –

• Indian Navy Day is celebrated on December 4 each year, which honors the Indian Navy’s dedication to protecting the nation’s maritime borders. The day commemorates Operation Trident from the 1971 India-Pakistan war, which showcased India’s naval strength with attack on Karachi.
• Each year, the Indian Navy selects a theme. Recently, the theme is “Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation.” This reflects the Navy’s commitment to modernisation and self-reliance.

5. UBER SHIKARA: INDIA’S FIRST WATER TRANSPORT SERVICE –

• Uber has introduced Asia’s first water transport service, Uber Shikara, in Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir, which blends technology with traditional shikara rides to enhance the tourist experience.
• Tourists can now book shikara rides through the Uber app that allows advance bookings from 12 hours to 15 days ahead, which aims to streamline the tourist experience.
